We continue to supply our customers and clients with petroleum products imported in compliance with Mongolia’s MNS 4633:2006 standards, following the petroleum supply technology. Lex Oil LLC is responsible for approximately 12-13% of Mongolia’s petroleum product imports. Since 2019, our company has been included in the list of companies responsible for building the state’s fuel reserves and has fulfilled its obligations accordingly.
Import of petroleum products in mongolia
Currently, about 95% of Mongolia’s petroleum product needs are met through imports. Approximately 95% of Mongolia’s total petroleum imports come from Russia, with the remainder being supplied by China and other countries.
Around 100 companies in Mongolia import petroleum products, and from Russia alone, the country imports $900-1500 million worth of oil products annually to meet domestic demand. More than 90% of Mongolia’s gasoline and diesel fuel are imported by rail through the Sukhbaatar and Ereentsav border points. Additionally, products from China and South Korea are imported via the Zamiin-Uud port.
In the past five years, Mongolia’s petroleum consumption has grown by 66%. From January 1 to April 8, 2024, Mongolia imported a total of 721.9 thousand tons of petroleum products, including:
- A-80 gasoline: 2.2 thousand tons
- AI-92 gasoline: 229.6 thousand tons
- AI-95/98 gasoline: 5.6 thousand tons
- Diesel fuel: 418.2 thousand tons
- TS-1 (jet fuel): 17.9 thousand tons
- Jet A-1 fuel: 11.0 thousand tons
- Other products: 37.1 thousand tons
